Pirates, old enemies of Long John, are on his trail. In the message the old pirate announces that he has buried a marvelous treasure on the secret isle where he retired: Emerald Island. The bird brings him a message from his master. Imagine his surprise when, one morning, he sees a parrot enter his bedroom window: none other than Captain Flint, Long John's own companion. Jim Hawkins has become an upstanding adventurous young man, attentive to those around him. And not a slide puzzle in sight! It's a shame games like this aren't really being made anymore (third person action-adventure and hidden object games took precedence), but for true adventure genre buccaneers X marks the spot right here.Destination: Treasure Island begins four years after the end of the adventure recounted in Robert Louis Stevenson's novel. (Not too hard, not too easy, I beat it without a walkthrough.) The final puzzle may throw some for a loop, but hey, 99% balanced isn't shabby. It's a rare adventure where the puzzle balance is just right. For anyone who enjoys pirates, tropics, seas, treasure hunting and puzzle solving "Destination: Treasure Island" is a must play. "Destination: Treasure Island" is no different. That's a shame, because Kheops' work is always above average and charming. Unfortunately outside Europe (specifically outside France), Kheops isn't well known among most genre fans. Kheops Studio produced quite a few high quality PC adventure games. The final puzzle is disingenuously difficult Mensa material. Family friendly theme is displaced by one gory scene involving piranhas. Some navigational hotspots are unintuitive to find. Gets a little crazy with the maritime knot tying. Boy that parrot really loves -that- song. +Upbeat and pleasant OST contributes strongly to the immersion. Liked: Expanded storyline from classic base material, memorable characters Disliked: The puzzles could be more challenging. +Fun sense of humor throughout the experience. It was a perfect opportunity for technology to shine. +Logical puzzles (and item combination puzzles) are entertaining to solve. Cutscenes occur both realtime in game, and also via comic book styled narration. Interaction is entirely mouse based, with simple elegant control. Gameplay is presented from a first person point of view, with node based movement, and a spherical 360 degree rotational camera. The player must elude dangerous pirates, solve many conundrums (mostly object puzzles), unravel a few mysteries, explore native ruins, save a damsel in distress, and maybe even become fabulously rich. Characters from his world famous novel continue in this game's storyline, this time chasing treasure and mystery on an island in the Caribbean.
